Our professional team here at Tropic Dental offer you exceptional teeth whitening services. Teeth whitening is a popular procedure that allows you to restore your full smile simply by visiting us for a regular tooth whitening appointment. It is a fast, simple and affordable process that will improve your appearance as it eliminates discoloration and stains from your teeth, giving you a truly younger look.
Teeth whitening lightens your teeth’s natural color without affecting the tooth surface. It is a cosmetic dental procedure as it improves your look but it may have to be repeated from time to time to maintain the bright color of your teeth. Your teeth may get stained due to a number of reasons, which include using tobacco, neglecting your dental hygiene, aging and drinking dark-colored liquids such as cola, red wine, coffee, and tea. Intrinsic stains inside your tooth can also form when you are overexposed to fluoride while your teeth are developing as a child. Tetracycline antibiotics may also cause staining in your teeth. Surface stains are the most responsive during the tooth whitening procedure.
Preparation for Teeth Whitening
When you visit our office, our team of experts will first treat your other dental problems like cavities before carrying out teeth whitening. This will prevent the whitening solution from passing through the decayed area into the inner sections of the tooth. Our professionals discourage the process of whitening when you have receding gums or tooth decay as whitening can increase your tooth sensitivity. In addition, the process does not work on porcelain crowns, veneers, and ceramics.
Our professionals will first photograph your teeth to monitor the treatment progress. A background check on the cause of your teeth staining will also be conducted.
The Whitening Process
Two main whitening procedures are used by our team of experts. The first method is known as vital whitening performed on teeth with live nerves. The second method is the non-vital whitening done on a tooth with root-canal treatment such that live nerves are no longer present.
During vital whitening, our experts will directly apply a gel to the surface of your teeth. The hydrogen peroxide content of the gel is responsible for whitening. The gel is activated using a laser or special light allowing a fast bleaching process. You will have to attend one to three appointments that last between 30 to 90 minutes depending on the severity of your stain.
Since the stains may be coming from the inner section of your teeth in the event that you have gone through a root canal treatment, the non-vital whitening procedure is performed. The procedure whitens your teeth from the inside. It involves placing the whitening agent in the inner part of your tooth and filling it temporarily. The agent will be left in your tooth for several days but the process will only need to be done once. However, it may be repeated in case your teeth fail to respond the first time.
