Inlays & Onlays

A smiling man looking in a mirrorAt Tropic Dental, you can expect the very best in dental care and treatment procedures. Our dentists, along with our staff, come with years of experience in this field, with a focus on growth as new technology and techniques are introduced. Two of the dental services our clinic offers include inlay and onlay restorations.

Inlay and onlay restoration is a dental procedure aimed at repairing teeth that have obtained mild to moderate levels of tooth decay. Applying a dental inlay or onlay is a good substitute for getting a dental crown. If the damage to the teeth is not that severe, our dentist will usually recommend this procedure as another solution.

What are Inlays and Onlays?

Dental inlays and onlays can be made from a variety of materials. We offer this dental procedure in porcelain and composite resin, but it may also be made using gold. We highly recommend this type of dental service for those who prefer a more natural result when compared to using metal dental fillings, as porcelain and resin can replicate the natural shade of teeth.

As we have stated earlier, gold can be used as the primary material when getting a dental inlay or onlay, but this option is best suited where the teeth that need repair are located somewhere not readily visible. We offer dental inlays and onlays in porcelain, ceramic, and resin for restorations on teeth situated at the front of the mouth.

What to Expect During the Procedure?

This type of dental procedure will usually take three sessions to complete. Our dentists will be guiding you through each step. The first session will be the removal of the decay, an impression of the cavity, and preparation for the next meeting.

Our dentist will be applying a temporary inlay or onlay on the tooth that will last up until the second session. During this waiting period, we will have already sent the impression of the cavity to the laboratory for processing.

During your second session, our dentist will check the permanent inlay or onlay to see if it suits all the prerequisites. This is an essential check, as our dentist will be conducting tests to see if the permanent inlay or onlay needs further re-adjustments.

The final session will be the placement of the inlay or onlay over the damaged teeth. Afterward, we will be giving you instructions on how to properly care for your new inlay or onlay to ensure it lasts for as long as possible.

Why Get Inlays and Onlays

Our dental inlays and onlays offer several advantages to our patients. For starters, using this dental procedure will circumvent the discoloration issues that are common in resin filling procedures. Inlays and onlays are also able to prevent common problems in using dental fillings such as leakage due to shrinking. Dental inlays and onlays are meticulously made to fit perfectly and can act as a complete seal to block off bacteria from entering the cavity in between your teeth.
